The list of insurance policies contained in the "List of property held by Jews" (Vermögensanmeldung)
1. List of potential victims dispossessed of their legal rights from insurance policies
The list of names of policyholders is a list of possible victims dispossessed of their legal rights from insurance policies is published by the Austrian Insurance Association. The list and an explanatory text from the Austrian Insurance Association can be found here.
The list published by the Austrian Insurance Association is based on the list of property held by Jews, administered by the National Socialist Property Transaction Office. "Claims from life, capital and annuity insurance policies which are not yet due and must be calculated at 2/3 of the premiums paid or of the contributed capital or of the surrender value" were also to be declared on the list, in a separate category of assets. The original documents are to be found in the archives of the Republic of Austria at the Austrian State Archives.
2. Collection Agencies' list of heirless Jewish property
Within the framework of the compensatory measures for seized property implemented by the Republic of Austria, property which was unclaimed and liable to be restituted was asserted by the Collection Agencies, established pursuant to the Receiving Organizations Act of 1957 (Federal Law Gazette 73/1957). These Collection Agencies compiled lists of potentially confiscated insurance policies for the winding-up of proceedings. As a result of the research of the General Settlement Fund, it was possible to establish extensive congruence of these lists with those lists of insurance policies which are based on the "list of property held by Jews according to its status on 27 April 1938".
The aforementioned lists were compiled electronically and can be searched by names of potentially aggrieved policyholders.
A total of 18,886 entries are to be found on the list.
Exemption from liability
It must be pointed out that these entries do not concern upheld insurance claims. Please understand that it must be pointed out that no legal right to compensation results from the fact that the name of a former policy holder appears on the list. It is up to the independent Claims Committee of the Fund to decide on such matters.
As the Collection Agencies' list can contain errors and errors can also occur in the processing of the material in order to publish it, no liability can be accepted for the correctness and completeness of the lists.
